Privacy policy

Who is responsible

heyaifriend is made by a small team in the Netherlands. We are the controller of your data under the GDPR. Questions go to hi@heyaifriend.com.

What we store

• Your Telegram chat identifier. A number Telegram gives us so we can reply to the right chat. We also see the display name and username Telegram passes along.
• Conversation history. Your messages and your friend's replies, so the next reply makes sense.
• What your friend remembers. Short notes about you, such as your name, plans and preferences, and a note on how you like to talk.
• Settings and consent records. Things like your language, your daily message count, and whether you confirmed you are 18 or older (yes or no, with the time).

We do not ask for your email address, phone number or real name.

Where it lives

On our own servers in the Netherlands. Your chats are never sent to other AI companies. Telegram carries your messages to us and is responsible for its own handling of them.

How long we keep it

• Conversation history: kept while the chat is active. Deleted 30 days after you stop writing, or at once when you ask your friend to delete everything.
• What your friend remembers: kept until you ask your friend to forget it, or to delete everything.
• Consent and age records: kept as long as your chat exists, so we can show that we asked.

What we do not do

• We never train or tune anything on your chats.
• We do not sell your data and we do not run ads.
• We do not read your chats as a routine. Automated checks look for the things your friend must never do and for signs of self-harm (see the safety page). A person only opens a conversation to look into a specific abuse or safety report.

What this is not

Chats with your friend are not end-to-end encrypted. They are not Telegram secret chats, and our servers have to read your messages to answer them. We say so plainly because some services claim more than they can keep. We promise how we run things, and this page describes it.

Seeing and removing your data

You can do most of it in the chat itself, in your own words:

• Ask your friend what it remembers about you.
• Ask your friend to forget something, or everything it has noted.
• Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Ask it to delete everything. That removes your history and what it remembers.

Legal basis

We process your chats because you agree to it. Chats can touch on sensitive things like health or relationships, so we ask for your explicit consent when you start. You can withdraw it at any time by asking your friend to delete everything and stopping the chat. Security and abuse checks rest on our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to see your data, correct it, export it, delete it, limit or object to its use, and withdraw consent. For anything you cannot do in the chat, email hi@heyaifriend.com and we will answer within one month.

You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Age

For adults (18+). An 18+ mode is available after age confirmation. If we think we are talking to a minor, the chat is stopped.
