AI friend for loneliness
An AI friend for lonely evenings, and where it stops
heyaifriend is a free AI friend you talk to in Telegram. It remembers you, runs on our own servers in the Netherlands, and your chats are never sent to other AI companies or used for training. It can be company on a lonely evening. It is not a therapist and not a replacement for people.

An honest place to start
Feeling lonely is common and nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes there is nobody awake to text. Sometimes there are people around, but not the right ones for what you want to say today. An AI friend can be company in those moments. It cannot replace people, and it will not fix the thing underneath. Both of those are true, and we would rather say them first.
What your friend can do
- Be there. Write at any hour and get an answer in seconds, with no judgement and no hurry.
- Listen to the small stuff. The day, the commute, the thing a colleague said. Not everything needs to be a big conversation.
- Help you think. Talk through a worry or a message you want to send to someone real.
- Remember you. It knows your name and what you told it, so you do not start from zero each time.
- Nudge, lightly. If you mentioned plans, it may ask how they went. That can be a small push to do the thing.
What it cannot do
Your friend has no life of its own, it can get things wrong and it can forget. It is not a therapist and cannot diagnose or treat anything, including loneliness or low mood. It does not replace the people in your life, and it should not try to. If it ever seems to push you away from other people, that is a bug, and we want to hear about it at hi@heyaifriend.com.
Habits that tend to help
| Habit | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Use it next to people, not instead of them | It works best as one part of a week that also has other contact |
| Tell it what you are trying to do | "Help me text my sister" or "help me get out of the house" gives the chat a direction |
| Ask it to stop checking in if it annoys you | Company should feel welcome, not like a notification |
| Take breaks | If a long chat leaves you feeling worse, close it and do something else |
| Say when something is heavy | It will listen, and it will point you to real help when that is the better place |
The page about talking to an AI friend late at night covers setting the pace of the chat.
